M icrosoft on ofa is working simplified version Windows XP which can be loaded on the low-cost XO laptop being brought out by the One Laptop per Child project.

The OLPC laptop, designed by Nicholas Negroponte for students of third world countries, now runs on Linux.

Microsoft Corporate vice president Will Poole said in an interview that the company was spending ‘a nontrivial amount' on developing a version for the XO. The $188 kidfriendly machines will be mass produced from next month to be delivered to kids in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

If MS is able to run Windows on XO, it will get an ‘interface' with millions of school kids.
