IP addresses to be over

Vint Internet, one has Cerf, of the founders of the warned that the present stock of IP addresses would be exhausted by 2010.

He has asked internet service providers to unravel the next generation of addresses.

A new system named IPv6 has already been prepared for this. It should go on stream soon if the Net is not to face an address shortage, said Cerf, who is also Google's ‘internet evangelist'.

The present IPv4 system can provide four billion addresses but the quantum rate of growth will soon exhaust that.

On the other hand, IPv6 will have 340 trillion trillion trillion addresses and it will take some time before that is exhausted.
