MySpace, Google join forces
Social networking giant MySpace has joined Google's Open Social, a major venture to develop applications that will work in all websites. The entry of MySpace, which has more than 200 million users, will give a new profile to Open Social and will also throw a challenge to the other major social networking site, Facebook.
Open Social is expected to change the social networking terrain by creating a single set of software standards for all such sites.
However, Facebook, which opened up to other developers in May, has not shown any interest in the Google venture so far. One reason could be Microsoft's buying a stake in it.
Other companies participating in the Open Social alliance include Bebo, LinkedIn and Orkut.
