Google is not a threat'3

Symbian, which provides software and operating systems for most mobile phones, has made light of Google's venture into its terrain.

Google had announced an alliance with 33 companies including handset manufacturers the other day as a prelude to launching its open platform, Android, for mobiles.

However, Symbian, whose software runs more than 165 million phones, says the web major lacks experience in this terrain. Its officials ridiculed that open source platforms came and went like ‘common cold'. Major mobile manufacturers including Nokia run Symbian software on their handsets.

Nokia and Motorola are also in discussions with Google but haven't committed on anything. "We are very happy in our partnership with Symbian," said a Nokia official.
