Free web services by Microsoft

Microsoft has released a package of free web services for Windows users. The package, which is part of "Windows Live" service, contains a desktop application which will help people access their emails without a browser.

It also contains updated versions of instant messaging and event planning applications. Also, there is a facility which will enable Windows users to save photos to the computer's hard drive with a single click.

Windows Live suite is part of Microsoft's attempt to mark its presence in the web services area, dominated by rivals such as Google. Even while stressing its core competence, MS is now promoting the concept of software plus services.
