iPhone mania in Europe too

The iPhone hysteria has hit Europe too. Like their American cousins, Apple fans in Cologne of Germany ignored sleeting rain and stood in long queues to lay their hands on the first iPhones to be sold in Europe.

There was much applause as the people who lined up at a Deutsche Telekom shop got the coveted handsets. Those who stood in the queue overnight also got blankets, umbrellas and hot coffee, courtesy T-Mobile, which is selling the coveted phone in Germany.

Apart from TMobile, Telefonica and France Telecom have also got contracts to sell the iPhone in Europe.

The iPhone is essentially a sleek combination of a phone, a media player and a web browser with a touch screen. Apple has sold over a million iPhones in gizmo-crazy US.
