Yahoo's email to get social

Yahoo is reportedly working on a fea ture called Inbox 2.0 which will turn its email service into a social network of sorts.

For one, it will give more stress to emails from special friends and also give links to their profiles. Yahoo will guess who the user's friends are from the frequency of emails send and received.

Other features would include list of friends whose birthdays are coming up, display of their photos and select messages etc.

The brainwave of using email as social network has struck Google too around the same time.

This way, the two web majors can use their inherent advantages against popular social networking sites Facebook and MySpace.

The idea probably emerged from the realisation that social networks were also importing email address books. So why not launch a social networking site from the email service itself.
