An Android challenge

Google has offered prizes worth $10 million to developers who come up with the best software for its upcoming mobile operating system Android.

The web major is developing Android as a free operating system and has formed an alliance with 33 companies including handset manufacturers.

As part of this, it has announced the Android Developer Challenge, welcoming geeks to create innovative software. Entries will be accepted from January to March and a panel of judges will pick 50 winners, who will get awards ranging from $25,000 to $2,75,000.

Motorola, Samsung, HTC and LG have annou-nced that they would use Android in some of their phones.
