HP surges ahead
More than 2.2 million person al computers were sold in India in the third quarter of 2007, according to research firm Gartner.The July-September quarter saw increased demand for laptops from home users, who earlier preferred desktop PCs.
Hewlett Packard led in the overall PC market by selling 0.38 million units and also surged ahead of its nearest rival HCL which could sell 0.21 million units. They were followed by Lenovo, Acer and Dell.
HP maintained its lead in both the desktop PC and laptop markets followed by Lenovo and Acer.
HCL also made its mark in the laptop segment and has almost caught up with its nearest rival Toshiba.
